Synopsis

With summer break under way, ensemble practice begins in earnest. Aono keenly feels how hard it is to bring sound together as a large group. Each person's pitch and rhythm are correct, yet when they play together the sound won't cohere. But just then, concertmaster Harada began sending cues with his bow and the movements of his body. Loosely, brightly, joyfully—everyone's breathing gradually falls into sync, and the playing becomes one. Aono is moved by Harada's skill in engaging with every member of the orchestra and with the sound of every instrument.
