Gatchin Gan'tetsu

Synopsis

One winter day on a riverbank, Sanpei comes across a strange sight. Someone is striking stones with a hammer and using the shock to knock fish unconscious — a fishing method called "gatchin." Sanpei gets to know its practitioner, Gan-tetsu, but Gan-tetsu loses his right hand in an unexpected accident. "I still have my left hand," Gan-tetsu says with admirable spirit, and, with Sanpei beside him, starts again from zero and splendidly resumes gatchin fishing.
